The City of Conway loads up on the events calendar for October, truly transforming into a must-see destination for Halloween lovers. Check out the incredible decorations around downtown including hundreds of pumpkins hanging from the trees along Main Street. The town also hosts a Halloween-themed golf cart parade and Halloween Home Decorating Contest (and the winners are sure to be epic). In 2023, Conway Parks and Recreation will host a "Haunted Hustle" 1-mile fun run for those who dare to be scared. The course will include terrifying features along an outdoor trail, and participants will be organized into heats of 8 to shoot through the path that awaits them. You can also take on the Forest of Fear. Conway is also hosting the Rivertown Spooktacular Boat Parade, where you can view - or decorate - spooky boats on the Riverwalk. In 2023, there will also be a Halloween Float Fest that features a costume parade and float down the Waccamaw River in your favorite pool float, with candy stations and a costume contest to kick off the Smoke on the Waccamaw BBQ Fest. (Kids must be within arm's reach of parents and life jackets/waivers are required.) Conway Downtown Alive will present the Conway Ghost Walk. Professional storytellers weave tales of lowcountry haints through the shadowy streets of downtown. Stories begin each evening at 6 p.m., the tour has six stops, and the route is approximately 1 mile. Movie nights will take place throughout October on The Terrace, and you can enjoy a Dive-In Movie Night (Jaws, of course) at the Conway Sports and Fitness Center indoor pool.

2. thompson farm fALL FUN & Flashlight fridays

Flashlight Fridays 2023: every Friday in October, gates open at 5 p.m.

Halloween Helicopter Candy Drop 2023: Oct. 28, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Is there anything better during autumn than Flashlight Fridays and Drive-In Movies at Thompson Farm? This is one of our all-time favorite family traditions. Gates open at 5 p.m. for Flashlight Fridays, where families can enjoy Norma’s Play Area with loads of activities, the 6.5 acre corn maze, food trucks, and more. You can bring your blankets and chairs to enjoy the featured movie (think favorites like Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown every weekend), from inside the farm. Flashlights, coffee, hot cider, and s’mores kits are available for sale. We always opt for the Drive-In Movie, which requires advanced tickets that can be purchased only on the website. Grab them early because they will sell out. The movie begins at dusk. This year, Thompson Farm will also host a Halloween Helicopter Candy Drop. Families can spend the day on the farm enjoying the 6-acre play area, corn maze, animal feedings, petting zoo, hay wagon rides, and watch the show at 4 p.m. as a helicopter flies over and drops over 15,000 festive "Pumpkin Seeds" out of the sky filled with Halloween treats and candy.
