The Hangout Myrtle Beach Lives Up to Its Name... and the Hype

Updated: Jul 5

Broadway at the Beach now has the best spot in the Grand Strand for families, friends, and groups of all ages to hang out.

Updated July 10, 2023

Building on the same successful formula of their Gulf Shores location, The Hangout Myrtle Beach is much more than just a restaurant. We got the full experience, dining during the daytime and then returning for the evening programming - so we have a full rundown of things you can't miss during your visit(s).

1. Make a wish.

The main entrance of the building is home to a massive wishing wall filled with countless colorful wishes. Be sure to add yours to this inspiring reminder to always keep wishing and dreaming.

2. Dance on the tables.

Yes, this is a real thing at The Hangout - during the daytime AND in the evening. If you're celebrating a birthday, if you're a mom or dad, the list goes on... get ready to get up on your table and dance.

3. Look around.

When you first walk into The Hangout, it looks like there's beautiful sunset artwork... and it's made completely out of PEZ! Over 21,000, to be exact, which is a World Record. Take some time to marvel. From a wall filled with rubber ducks, to windowsills lined with matchbox cars, to cheeky signage, The Hangout has so much to see. Make sure you check out both levels for the full experience.

4. Ride the indoor slide (again and again and again).

There is an indoor slide that starts on the second level and ends in the gift shop, so be ready for your kiddos to take countless rides down it (and back up the steps and down again....)

5. Get sandy.

Calling the sand play area at The Hangout a gigantic sandbox really doesn't cover it. It's a massive mound of sand with a built-in tunnel, and your kids are going to want to play on it until the foam comes, which leads us to #7...

6. Get foamy.

Next door to the sand play area, there's a huge foam machine that spews out a waterfall of foamy bubbles, which kids and adults alike can romp around in.

7. Take time to play.

From cornhole, to giant Checkers, to foosball... there are so many games to play around The Hangout. Unleash your inner child, or challenge your child to a match, and have some fun.

8. Do it for the gram.

There are so many photo ops around The Hangout including: a huge Insta-worthy blue and white wall upstairs, a super tall surfer statue with a beating heart shaka, and two giant shaka hands. Even the bathrooms have cool walls.

9. Feast your eyes on the biggest TVs ever.

The Hangout has a massive wall of screens that will allow you to keep up with several games while you enjoy the festive atmosphere.

10. Be there for the epic napkin drop.

Yep, you read that right. While there is a live DJ and dance parties throughout the day and evening, this is one thing at The Hangout that only happens once a day (during the summer, it's always around 8:45) and it's so worth it to be there in the evening to experience it for yourself.

11. Enjoy an ice cold adult beverage.

The Hangout has some excellent signature cocktails, frozen drinks, mules and mojitos, spiked slushies, and more. Our favorite is the Shark Attack which is served with a shark toy your kids will want to keep! Most drinks are around $10. There's also a 24 oz. mug where you double any bar drink - so you are basically getting a cool Hangout mug for around $4 depending on the drink.

12. Remember that you're (partially) paying for the experience.

The food is fresh with big portions. It's not cheap - the BBQ pork nachos app is $17, the specialty burgers are $17-19, the cheapest seafood item is the Shrimp Plate for $22, po boys are $16-19, and kids meals are $8-12 - BUT the experience you get while you eat is worth it... And you can save if you....

13. Get (some) kids meals free before 4 p.m. daily.

You can choose between the mac and cheese, hamburger, or hot dog sliders. Each kids meal is free with the purchase of an adult entree... Or you could always just...

14. Grab some drinks and enjoy the nightly concert.

During the summer months, The Hangout presented live music every single evening from 6-10 p.m. on their outdoor stage that's surrounded by soft turf lined with comfy chairs and tables for relaxing and taking in the stellar lineup of bands. While we really enjoyed our dining experience, we will definitely be back on the regular to get some of the delicious drinks and hang out while the kiddos play.

15. Eat breakfast with pirates and princesses!

This swashbuckling breakfast adventure is filled with dances, games, and a hunt for treasure. The All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast includes a platter of biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and breakfast potatoes. The price is $19.99 for adults, $8.99 for children 6-12, and free for children 5 & under. There are two shows daily at 9 and 10 a.m, June 15 – August 15.

The Bottom Line

If you're at Broadway at the Beach and you're looking for a unique dining experience or a place to make memories, The Hangout is that place. We were blown away by the kind servers, live entertainment, and relaxing atmosphere. This is one place you will want to keep hanging out.
